MUSA OTIENO: ON TROPHIES AND ETERNITY
HOW FOOTBALL LEGEND MUSA OTIENO FOUND A GREATER VICTORY BEYOND THE PITCH
For years, he was celebrated as one of Kenya’s finest football captains—a fearless leader, a defensive giant, and a national icon whose name became synonymous with excellence on the football pitch.
But today, Musa Otieno says the greatest victory of his life was never won in a stadium.
In a recent exclusive interview, the former Harambee Stars captain opened up about a personal journey of faith that transformed not only his perspective on football but his entire purpose for living.
“Football gave me trophies, recognition, and opportunities,” he reflected.
“But faith helped me see beyond temporary success and focus on eternal life.”

Having retired from professional football in 2010 after an illustrious career that inspired millions, Otieno could easily have settled into a life of comfort and nostalgia. Instead, his newfound purpose led him in a different direction, one focused on impacting lives rather than collecting accolades.
Today, he dedicates much of his time to Kickoff to Hope, a not-for-profit initiative committed to nurturing young talent, restoring hope, and creating opportunities for vulnerable youth through sports and mentorship.
For Otieno, the mission is bigger than football. It is about helping young people discover their potential, build character, and find direction for their lives, both on and off the field.
His story is a powerful reminder that while trophies gather dust and cheers eventually fade, a life lived with purpose leaves a legacy that endures. The captain who once inspired a nation from the football pitch is now inspiring a new generation to pursue something even greater: hope, purpose, and a future anchored in faith.
Because some victories are measured not by medals won, but by lives transformed.
